Carter, R.M.; Norris, R.J. 2005 The geology of the Blackmount district, Te Anau and Waiau Basins, western Southland . Lower Hutt: Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences. Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences science report 2004/23 97 p. + 1 CD
Abstract: This report contains detailed descriptions, illustrations, and a map of the stratigraphy and structure of the Blackmount area, as formerly disseminated in abstract form by Carter & Norris (1977). While the text has been updated to take into account more recent mapping and stratigraphic syntheses, in some places it does reflect the fact that it was first prepared in the late 1970s. The report is based on original field mapping by the authors, supplemented by observations made by many colleagues and students during their participation in the Otago University Geology Department undergraduate third year field camp, which has been held at Blackmount since 1971. The Te Anau and Waiau basins north and south of Blackmount were mapped in the 1980s, as part of the Cretaceous-Cenozoic Project (CCP) of the New Zealand Geological Survey. As a result the Blackmount sequences, which in some ways are atypical of the wider Te Anau and Waiau basins, can be placed in a regional context. The lithostratigraphic nomenclature of the Te Anau and Wairau basins, including that of the Blackmount area, was updated during the CCP. (auth/DG)
