Abstract: This science report presents petrographic thin section descriptions of selected core and cuttings samples from the Kawerau Geothermal Field. This report complements the work undertaken for a PhD (Milicich, 2013) focussing on the Kawerau Geothermal Field. As part of this project the core and cutting samples described in this report were dated by SHRIMP-RG U-Pb dating of zircons (Milicich et al., 2013a), with the results used in support of a revision of the stratigraphic framework for the Kawerau Geothermal Field (Milicich et al., 2013b). The petrographic descriptions of thin sections in this report represent many of the revised stratigraphic units presented in Milicich et al. (2013a,b) from wells in the Kawerau area (prefixed KA) and Putauaki area (prefixed PK) of the geothermal field. The purpose of this report is to provide the petrographic descriptions that were undertaken as part of Milicich et al. (2013a,b) to aid with descriptions and assigning stratigraphy within the revised stratigraphic framework. (auth)
