Abstract: In 2016 the Joint Centre for Disaster Research (JCDR) was contracted to review and update the Ministry of Health’s Individual and Community Recovery in an Emergency Event (2007) document. As part of this review existing guidance documents and literature were analysed to identify: the psychosocial and mental health impacts of emergency events; what influences psychosocial impact of emergency events; the evidence for the effectiveness of psychosocial support services following emergency events. This evidence report provides a summary of the research which was used in the review and development of the updated document - Framework for Psychosocial Support in Emergencies (Ministry of Health, 2016).
