Abstract
This report provides an overview of the Aotearoa New Zealand Earthquake Loss Model for Residential Exposures. The model estimates potential losses for residential buildings in Aotearoa New Zealand from earthquake shaking and secondary perils, namely liquefaction and landslides. The model is based on the latest science available in Aotearoa New Zealand on seismic hazard, secondary perils, the vulnerability of residential buildings and the associated repair cost from these events. The model has been implemented in RiskScapeTM, a flexible, open-source multi-hazard risk model developed by predecessor organisations of Earth Sciences New Zealand. This has allowed customised risk-analysis pipelines to be constructed, allowing the science to drive implementationof the model workflow rather than a prescribed loss-model framework. The model has been developed by and for Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake internal loss modelling, but it is intended to be a model utilised for other purposes. The model framework is transparent and flexible, allowing other model components to be added at a later date, or for it to be applied to other exposure types if suitable vulnerability functions are available.
