Abstract: The town of Te Kuiti is 126 miles south of Auckland. It lies near the centre of Te Kuiti subdivision, which comprises the block of country bounded by the Huntly-Kawhia subdivision in the north, the Mokau, and Tongaporutu-Ohura subdivisions in the south, the Rangitoto Range in the east, and the Tasman Sea in the west. The subdivision covers nearly 1,200 square miles. In addition, part of the western and southern borders of Ranginui survey district, the north-eastern part of Hurakia, and the northern part of Ongarue were examined and mapped. This bulletin describes the areal geology of the north-western part of the King Country. The resources are chiefly agricultural though some timber is cut, large quantities of limestone are quarried, and coal-mining is being developed. (auth/DG)
