Abstract: The Mangakahia Subdivision covers about 625 square miles in the middle of the North Auckland peninsula. Soon after geological mapping was begun in Motatau Subdivision, the writer realised that the structure and stratigraphy were more complex than expected. As a result, much work was done outside the subdivision in an endeavour to find sections and establish a geological column. The work in the subdivision has thus not been confined to field seasons but has been extended to periods of varying length throughout the years 1946 to 1953. (auth/EB)
