Abstract: This report was prepared at the request of the Commissioner of Works. A programme of systematic upgrading of State Highway 3 through the Manawatu Gorge is at present under consideration. At several locations the existing carriageway requires widening to improve road alignment and visibility. Near the middle of the gorge, two sections have been selected for detailed design studies.
