Abstract: The Convoy Range geological map covers a large, mostly ice free area of approximately 2500km<sup2 between the Mackay and Mawson glaciers of southern Victoria Land. This area is dominated by a major regional intrusive centre of the Jurassic Ferrar Dolerite. The Ferrar Dolerite overlies and intrudes a basement of more or less gneissic granitoids of Granite Harbour Intrusives, that crops out mainly in the south and east, particularly along the northern side of Mackay Glacier. The Kukri Erosion Surface is poorly exposed except in a few localities where thin remnants of Beacon Supergroup intervene between the basement and dolerite. The lower Beacon Supergroup is represented by three formations of the Devonian Taylor Group - New Mountain Sandstone, Arena Sandstone and Beacon Heights Orthoquartzite, with a maximum measured thickness of 290 m. Of these, New Mountain Sandstone is exposed only very locally as thin remnants resting on the Kukri Erosion Surface and overlain by dolerite. Correlation is based on the abundance of Heimdallia chatwini and lack of Skolithos linearis. Arena Sandstone crops out extensively in steep cliffs along the eastern side of the Convoy Range, but no base is exposed. Beacon Heights Orthquartzite has a similar distribution to Arena Sandstone, and wehre both formations are present, overlies it with a gradational contact. Remnants of the Maya Erosion Surface are preserved cutting down into Beacon Heights Orthoquartzite, but in most places the Maya surface has been removed by the younger Pyramid Erosion Surface. The upper Beacon Supergroup is represented by two Late Carboniferous to Permian formations of the Victoria Group - Metschel Tillite and Weller Coal Measures. The maximum exposed thickness is approximately 150 m, but the thickest sequence is highly fragmented by dolerite intrusions. Metschel Tillite is preserved only locally, as thin remnants, whereas the Weller Coal Measures are more extensive. Typically, the coal measures overlie Beacon Heights Orthoquartzite, but there are also isolated rafts within Ferrar Dolerite. Coal seams are a minor lithology, typically discontinuous and thin (
