Speight, R. 1938 The geology of the Mount Somers district. Government Printer: Wellington. Geological memoirs / New Zealand Geological Survey 3. 116 p.
Abstract: For the purpose of this memoir the Mount Somers District will be considered as that part of the eastern range of the foothills of the Southern Alps which lies between the South Hinds and the North Ashburton rivers, and more particularly that part in the vicinity of the South Ashburton river. The district presents numerous interesting geological features, especially the occurrence of Mesozoic volcanics of three distinct ages: Tertiary coal-measures, limestone, and associated volcanics; glacial and fluvio-glacial deposits.
