Abstract: A systematic revision based on a study of the original collections is given of Miocene and Oligocene Foraminifera from New Zealand, described by Karrer and Stache in the reports of the Novara Expedition published in Vienna in 1864. Of 19 new species described by Karrer from the Orakei Greensand, 17 are considered to be valid, including Gaudryina convexa, Pararotalia mackayi, Discorotalia tenuissima, Criborotalia ornatissima, Amphistegina aucklandica and campbelli, Lepidocyclina (Nephrolepdina) orakeiensis. Of 126 new species described by Stache from the Whaingaroa Siltstone, 48 are considered to be valid, including Cyclammina incisa, Haeuslerella textilariformis, Arenodosaria antipoda, Lagenoglandulina annulata, Planularia halophora, Recuvigerina striatissima, Rotaliatina sulcigera. Proxifrons is treated as a subgenus of Plectofrondicularia, and the genus Arenodosaria is retained. Stratigraphic renges of the species are given. (auth)
