Abstract: This report summarises present knowledge of the limestone resources of southern Marlborough (from Kaikoura southward) and of Canterbury, but excludes those in the Waimate-Waihao Downs-Hakataramea area that were included in a recent survey by R.A. Cooper (NZGS report 15, 1966). Information on the location and extent of limestone deposits in the area, with data on producing quarries (listing carbonate content where possible), has been compiled chiefly from NZGS 1:250,000 maps, and from unpublished NZGS records, from Mines Department records of quarrying, and from quarry bin samples collected and analysed by the Department of Agriculture and quoted by permission of the companies concerned.
