Abstract: The Waikato is one of New Zealand’s most important agricultural regions, yet in 1964 it also produced over 3.25 million tons of mineral raw materials, which were worth over ₤5.000,000, about one quarter of New Zealand’s total. These figures do not include the quantity of value of ground water, which could well be the Region’s most valuable mineral resource. Resource occurrence, approximate tonnage and value are discussed for: groundwater; coal; aggregate and sand; limestone; serpentine; clays; building stone; pumice; peat; geothermal water. (auth)
