Field, B.D.; Browne, G.H. 1986 Lithostratigraphy of Cretaceous and Tertiary rocks, southern Canterbury, New Zealand. Lower Hutt: New Zealand Geological Survey. Record / New Zealand Geological Survey 14 55 p.

Abstract: This paper outlines the lithostratigraphy of the Cretaceous and Tertiary rocks that occur in Canterbury between the Rakaia and Waitaki Rivers (the area referred to informally here as ''southern Canterbury''). The present stratigraphic compilation has been attempted to provide a coherent, manageable base for completing the Canterbury Region of the New Zealand Geological Survey's ''Cretaceous-Cenozoic Project'', a study of the content and development of New Zealand's Cretaceous-Cenozoic basins. The lateral applications of the lithostratigraphic names used here are not necessarily confined to the geographic boundaries of this study area.
