Abstract: This guide does not attempt to cover the large amount of geodetic work, monitoring and analysis that is currently underway in New Zealand and that is adding significantly to our understanding of the active faulting process (Bevin et al. 1984). Similarly the seismicity of New Zealand, although introduced, is not expanded upon. This is primarily a guide to the surface expression of active faulting (and other deformation) in the South Island of New Zealand. The guide was produced as a field guide for the workshop.
