Abstract: A seismic refraction survey was conducted at the junction of the Hurunui River and the Sisters Stream. Greywacke basement rocks of seismic P-wave velocity 3.5 km/s were detected and mapped; their depths vary from ground level to more than 70 metres below ground level. The overlying gravels are divided into two main groups, typified by P-wave velocities of 0.8 km/s and 1.8 km/s. Further subdivision is possible in some places (auth.)
