Atkins, R.A.E. 1972 Thermal power development seismic survey, proposed Huntly Power Station. [s.l.]: [s.n.]. Report / Geophysics Division 82 9 p.

Abstract: A seismic refraction study along two lines was made to investigate foundations of a proposed thermal power station west of Huntly and near the Waikato River. A thin soil layer covers pumiceous sands and gravels which are approximately 45 to 76 m thick. A claystone horizon, found in drill holes, was not located seismically because of the low velocity contrast between it and the overlying pumiceous sands. A wave-front diagram has been drawn to illustrate why the claystone is undetected. Beneath the claystone are coal measures, and a seismic horizon was detected in these (auth.)
