Abstract: The proposed dam site is near the bridge over the Waiau River on the road to Lake Monowai. At this point the valley narrows between two spurs and the river has cut through the thick glacial gravels into underlying sandstone. The purpose of the survey was to determine the thickness of the gravels along four 1200 feet long seismic lines. Two of these run along the dam centre line, profiles A and B, Fig 1, and the other two were at angles to these, profiles C and D, Fig 1, on the northern bank of the river (auth)
