Abstract: Seismic refraction, electrical resistivity and gravity surveying techniques were used to map several rock layers at the site of a proposed tunnel between the Whaeo River and Flaxy Creek, on the Kaingaroa Plateau. The surveys showed that neither surface weathering nor basement ridges are likely to interfere with the proposed tunnelling, but that a buried, unwelded Te Whaiti(?) Ignimbrite layer rises above tunnel invert level in several places. (auth)
