Abstract: At the request of Lime and Marble Ltd., Mapua, several test sections were shot on their gold prospects on the West Coast of the South Island. These tests were to determine the feasibility of using seismic refraction methods for exploration in the glacial moraines and outwash gravels; in particular to determine the ease with which the ''bottom'' profile could be obtained, ''bottom'' usually being Old Man Gravels or marine silts (''Blue Bottom'').
