Thompson, G.E.K. 1971 Near surface ground temperatures in the North Island volcanic belt. [s.l.]: [s.n.]. Report / Geophysics Division 68 15 p.
Abstract: The location and definition of areas where elevated near surface ground temperatures occur is important for a variety of reasons. In the vicinity of known thermal activity, the boundaries, which sometimes extend well beyond visible features, enable conduction losses to be evaluated for inclusion in the total natural heat discharge. Surveys of this kind can assist the location of drill sites for shallow exploitation, define danger zones when the insurance of property is desired, or identify hazards prior to excavation or the construction of buildings. This report, which should be regarded as the first of a series, assembles the results of investigations in thirteen areas throughout the North Island Volcanic Belt. Additional data will be reported in a similar manner as they become available.(auth)
