Abstract: The complex geology of the area, particularly the presence of a diapiric melange unit, and the tectonic activity of the region with its high frequency of earthquakes, indicate that the area is unsuitable for intensive urban or residential development. However, some low intensity development in selected sites may be acceptable following thorough investigations designed to locate suitable building sites. (auth)
