Abstract
This report looks at how natural hazards could affect Mana Whenua marae and Maori communities (both people and buildings) in the Wellington region. This assessment was done using existing information about natural hazards and locations of mana whenua marae and Maori communities. The study looked at multiple hazards together to see how much risk each marae and Maori community faces. It considers: 1. Large earthquakes that happen about every 475 years or longer (including shaking and landslides triggered by earthquakes). 2. Active fault lines (surface rupture), tsunami and liquefaction (when the ground turns to liquid during shaking). 3. Heavy rainfall events that cause landslides now, as well as future risk simulated for the year 2090 due to climate change.
