Abstract
This report outlines a summary of a one-day workshop held to discuss scientific uses of the GeoNet seismic and geodetic networks and potential science-backed expansion plans of those networks. The workshop was held as part of a Strategic Development Funded Project led by Charles Williams and supported by several others. The primary workshop organisers were Charles Williams, Katie Jacobs, and Emily Warren-Smith. The main goal of this first workshop was to develop a prioritised list of scientific and monitoring questions to be answered with GeoNet sensor network data. We had a good cross section of representation with attendees joining from GNS Science, Toitu; Te Whenua LINZ (LINZ), Toka Te Ake EQC (EQC), Massey University, University of Auckland, University of Otago, and Victoria University of Wellington – Te Herenga Waka. We had about 50 in-person attendees in the Malahoff Theatre, with many more joining online. The workshop included 14 presentations on a range of topics, four discussion sessions (totalling ~3 hours) as well as two interactive exercises designed to collate end-user requirements and scope (auths)
