Abstract

Aotearoa New Zealand is subject to many natural hazards, which, when combined with land use activities, can result in risk to people, infrastructure and the built environment. It’s Our Fault; No Matou Te Hapa (IOF) is a Wellington-focused earthquake science programme dating back to 2006. Since 2018/2019, this has included Science to Practice workshops, and this report summarises five workshops undertaken from 2019/2020–2023/2024 (Phase 2 of the IOF programme). The workshops aim to improve natural hazard risk management capability of planning and policy practitioners by disseminating science across these professions. Recommendations for future workshops are provided, and include the individual needs of councils and early engagement to understand their key issues, emerging requirements, knowledge gaps and logistical considerations.
