Jolly, A.D. (ed) 2015 Abstract contributions to the Central Plateau Volcanic Advisory Group from research on the 2012 Te Maari eruptions. Lower Hutt, N.Z.: GNS Science. GNS Science miscellaneous series 78 64 p.

Abstract: The 6 August 2012 Eruption from Tongariro’s upper Te Maari vent, had modest impacts on the surrounding communities. However, the eruption provided opportunities to test response systems, understand the underlying processes that led to the event and the consequences and effects of the eruption on the surrounding landscape and communities. Seventeen papers were subsequently published in the Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research (2014 Issue 286, pages 183-451) including papers ranging from the management of the eruption, local and regional impacts, the historical aspects of eruptive activity, and the pre-eruption conditions and activity. The understanding of the eruption itself was documented through monitoring records and subsequent field work. In the 29 October 2014 Central Plateau Volcanic Advisory Group (CPVAG) meeting, the members of the group suggested that the recently published research could be made more accessible by re-abstracting the set of work in lay terms. Given the limited timeframe, a request was made to the authors of the volume, and voluntary abstract contributions were given. This abstract volume contains several contributions from the original research effort but is not complete due to the time constraints ahead of the planned May 2015 meeting. Regardless, it is hoped that this new effort provides support to the Central Plateau volcano management community. (auth)
