Hicks, S.R. 1974 Shallow seismic surveys at Wainuiomata, Waikanae and Whangaimoana. : . Report / Geophysics Division 93 33 p.

Abstract: Engineering seismic refraction surveys were conducted on three sites in the Wellington region. At Wainuiomata and Waikanae, greywacke basement rocks were detected and mapped at shallow depths, typically ten to fifteen metres. At Wainuiomata an electrical resistivity survey supported the seismic results. At Whangaimoana, greywacke lay too deep for detection by the refraction survey, and a seismic reflection survey was conducted on the same site. This suggested that greywacke here lies about 3.8 kilometres below the ground surface. An interpretation of gravity isostatic anomaly values along a profile through this site supports this figure.
