Williams, R.O. 1993 Survey completion report : kinematics of the New Zealand plate boundary - 1992 GPS Campaign. Lower Hutt: Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences science report 93/27 114 p.

Abstract: The Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences is participating in an international collaborative project to investigate the present-day kinematics of the New Zealand plate boundary zone using Global Positioning System technology. The principal investigator of the project (''Kinematics of the New Zealand Plate Boundary'') is Prof. R.I. (Dick) Walcott of Victoria University of Wellington and there are five other participating institutions with co-investigator status - three in New Zealand and two from the United States. In summary, the six institutions involved are: - Victoria University of Wellington (VUW); Department of Survey and Land Information, New Zealand (DOSLI); Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences, New Zealand (IGNS); University of Otago, Dunedin; University Navstar Consortium (UNAVCO), Boulder, Colorado; Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory of Columbia University, Palisades, New York. Dr Des Darby of the Earth Deformation Section is the IGNS project co-investigator. This report is a summary of the Institute's participation in organising and carrying out GPS fieldwork in 1992 - the first epoch of measurements for the project. The principal purpose of the report is to serve as a repository for site descriptions of the points occupied during the 1992 campaign. These are given in Appendix B. Secondarily, the report summarises and discusses various aspects of the campaign that the Institute was involved in, and the narrative section is written from that viewpoint. (auth)
