Abstract: This report presents the findings of a survey of visitors to Lake Taupo in January 2000. The main aim of this survey was to determine the attitudes and perceptions of visitors to Taupo District towards environmental issues relating specifically to Lake Taupo. A subsidiary aim was to determine any important differences between the attitudes and perceptions of visitors and residents towards Lake Taupo by comparing the findings of this survey with the findings of the recent 1999 survey of residents. The overall purpose of this work is to provide a mechanism for the systematic inclusion of public opinion in environmental management decisions, in addition to other options available such as public meetings and focus groups.
