Abstract: A site has been fenced on the Edgecumbe Fault north of McCracken Road. A series of profile lines has been set up across the fault and these are used to monitor the natural degradation of its scarp. This site is the only unmodified remnant of the surface rupture of the Edgecumbe Fault, resulting from the Edgecumbe earthquake of 2 March 1987. This portion of the scarp erodes in soft sedimentary deposits of the Rangitaiki Plains. A description of the site, the initial profiles, and the measurements carried out in March and August 1987 are reported (auth)
