Abstract: This report provides definitions, formats, and guidelines for compilation of each attribute in the GEM Faulted Earth global fault, fold and fault source database. The report is aimed primarily for use when uploading new data using the web-based fault compilation tool and individual attribute descriptions are also included in help menus in the tool. The report is laid out in three sections corresponding to the three main components of the database: (1) neotectonic faults; (2) neotectonic folds; (3) and fault sources, although it should be noted that folds are not currently available in the fault compilation tool (v1.12.11). Within each section attributes are listed in alphabetical order. Appendices contain descriptions of the calculations of the fault source attributes maximum magnitude and recurrence interval. (auth)
