Blick, G.H.; Williams, R.O. 1986 The December 1985 survey of the Mount Erebus volcanic deformation monitoring pattern. Lower Hutt: New Zealand Geological Survey. New Zealand Geological Survey report EDS 102 39 p.

Abstract: The Mt Erebus Survey project is part of the International Mount Erebus Seismic Studies (IMESS) and is designed to monitor ground-surface deformations of the summit portion of Mt Erebus by geodetic (precise) surveys. The project was implemented by P.M. Otway, New Zealand geological Survey (NZGS) during the 1980/81 season. The aim is to determine if deformation is occurring on Mt Erebus and if so, whether it can be correlated with variations in the volcanic and seismic activity. This was the sixth survey of the survey network (Figure 1). The network was surveyed in December 1985 by triangulation using a Wild T2 theodolite and supplemented with distance measurements using a Wild D120. Three tilt levelling patterns were surveyed using a Wild NA2 level and invar staff. Adjustment of the direction and distance data indicated large residuals on three directions and one distance resulting in their rejection from the data-set. Standard errors are estimated to be 2.4" for direction observations, and 3.2" and =/-5.3 mm +/-3.2 ppm for a combination of direction and distance measurement (auth)
